An ancient and powerful shrine located in Annamputhur near Tindivanam in Tamilnadu is dedicated to Lord Sri Nidheeswarar & Ambigai Sri Kanaga Thiripurasundari. Having stood for centuries, bearing the onslaught of time, this temple is situated in beautiful serene and natural green surroundings. Its antiquity and divinity, sanctified by the presence of Sri Subramaniyar, Sri Lakshmi Ganapathy, Sri Kala Bhairavar, Sri Dhanaaakrshana Bhairavar, Siddhar creates a memorable feeling of devotion and piety.
From the archaeological findings, It was learnt that the Sri Nidheeswarar Templewas constructed and worshipped by the Pallavas and the great chola king Raja RajaChola over 1000 years ago. But the great shiva temple after years of natural calamities had left only the great Siva Lingam.The Shivalinga itself belongs to an undated period estimated to be more than 3000 years old. He stands a tall four and a half feet on a lotus base (Peetham) and just the Lingam is measured to be 7 feet with 4.1/2 feet above the ground and 2.1/2 feet below the ground which is unique.
Sri Nidheeswarar worshipped by Lord Brahma
Sri Nidheeswarar is believed to have been worshipped by God Brahma to get rid of a curse incurred by Shiva’s wrath in Thiruvannamalai.
Sri Nidheeswarar worshipped by Lord Kubera
kubera, the God of wealth prayed to this mighty Shiva and obtained all the eight types of Nidhis and was awarded the title “The Lord of Wealth”here. Hence Shiva here got the name Sri Nidheeswarar. It is strongly believed and also tested that those who have prayed to Sri Nidheeswarar with utmost sincerity have found their prayers answered. One can expect a turning point in life by praying at this temple.
The pious and godfearing people all around got together, started to re-construct the temple in the year 2008. With the blessings from KanchiParamacharyal, we under the forum of SriNidheeswarar Temple Trust undertaken the renovation work with the support and guidance of srimathi Geetha Ganesh and devotional people all around have got together to rebuild this temple and reinstate Sri Nidheeswarar in all his past glory and power. The prime construction was completed and Kumbabhishegam was performed by Siva Shree PichaiGurukkal of Pillaiyarpatti in April 2014.
